Everything I remember, item by item.

No fine print. This is the full list of what Nain stores, what's inside each piece, why it's there and when it goes away. The privacy policy explains the rest.

The short version

Nain doesn't ask Discord for message content, so only commands and buttons reach it. It sends music into voice and never listens to or records what people say.

Nothing is sold or shared for advertising, and the website has no cookies.

Things you save

Saved with your Discord ID. Most of it stays until you remove it, because keeping it is the whole point.

Playlists

The name, description and visibility you chose. Each song's title, artist, link, cover image link, length and source, plus the Discord ID of whoever added it and when. Your Discord ID as the owner, your display name from your last edit, and the IDs of anyone you invited to edit. Counters for songs, likes and plays.

Kept until you delete it with /playlist delete.

Likes

Your Discord ID, the playlist you liked and when. It lets you like a playlist only once and feeds the charts.

Kept until you press Like again or the playlist is deleted.

Playlist plays

Your Discord ID, the server and the time each time you play a playlist. Used for the weekly charts, and so one person playing the same playlist over and over only counts once every 30 minutes.

Deleted automatically after 30 days.

Server playlist stats

How many times a playlist was played in a server and when it was last played. No user IDs, only the server and the playlist. This is what the server ranking in /playlist top shows.

Kept until the playlist is deleted.

Voice settings

The text to speech voice, speed, style and loudness you picked in /tts voice, and whether I say your name first. Saved with your Discord ID so it follows you to every server.

Kept until you press Reset in /tts voice.

First command date

Your Discord ID and the date you first used Nain. It's how I know to show the welcome tip once and never again.

Kept until you ask us to delete it.

Server settings

Settings

The server ID with its DJ role, default volume, whether I stay connected, whether I post the player, and who can use text to speech. Only people with Manage Server can change them.

Kept until someone presses Reset to defaults in /settings.

Welcome note

A flag with the server ID saying I already posted my hello when I joined, so adding me again right away doesn't repeat it.

Deleted automatically after 30 days.

While music plays

Short lived things that let the music survive a restart. They clean themselves up.

Queue

The songs in the queue and the ones just played, with who asked for each: Discord ID, display name and avatar link.

Deleted 7 days after the last change, or right away with /stop.

Player

The voice channel and text channel I'm in, the player message, the volume, the position in the song, the filter, and whether loop, autoplay and lyrics are on.

Deleted 1 day after the last change.

Text to speech audio

The audio file of what I'm about to say, made on our own server. The file name is a random looking code, and the text you typed isn't saved anywhere.

Deleted automatically after 1 hour.

Record artwork

The cover of the current song, turned into the spinning record you see on the player and served from nain.dsc.sh. It's the song's artwork, nothing about you.

Deleted automatically after 7 days.

Seen, never stored

Some things pass through Nain's memory to do the job and are gone when they're done:

  • What you type in commands, like a search or a song link. Searches go to YouTube, YouTube Music or SoundCloud, and Spotify links go to Spotify, without your name or ID.
  • Lyrics for the current song. The title and artist go to YouTube Music and LRCLIB, and the lyrics live in memory only while the song plays.
  • Server details from Discord, like channel names, roles and who is in which voice channel. Discord sends these to every bot in a server. Nain uses them to join the right channel and check permissions, and doesn't save them.

Logs

Error and event logs

Technical notes for fixing things: server IDs, the name of a song that failed to play, the search text when a search breaks, and errors from Discord or the music servers. They're only read by us, when something goes wrong.

Kept up to 30 days.

Website access logs

When you visit nain.dsc.sh, the web server notes your IP address, the page and your browser, like nearly every website does.

Kept up to 30 days.
